Directions for Making

"La Fede Della Madonna" Rosary

The Faith of The Blessed Mother

October 7th to March 25 = 170 Days

Please read and understand all of the directions thoroughly before you begin. Be sure have all of the supplies needed and are ready to make the commitment that it will take to complete this rosary.

Begin making the Special Italian Rosary on October 7, The Feast of the Holy Rosary, and also go to Mass that day.

Complete the Rosary on March 25, The Annunciation, and also go to Mass that day.

Day one, make the first bead of the Hail Mary on October 7th, pray 1 Hail Mary for that day, and pray the scheduled Rosary for that day. On day two make the next Hail Mary bead knot, pray a Hail Mary for that day, pray a another Hail Mary for the bead knot you made the day before, and pray the scheduled Rosary for that day. Continue by making one bead knots every day. Continue to go back and say the prayers for each bead knot you have made thus far for all the previous days, and say one scheduled Rosary for that day.

Remember, this is a commitment for 170 days. You will be saying a Rosary every day plus the bead(s) you have made each day and the previous days. When you are finished with the Rosary on the last day you will have said 4 complete Rosaries for that day ending on March 25 and with adding the Cross and tying on your ribbons.

The Cord or twine
The size of the twine you choose will vary according to the tightness of the knot and the stretch of the cord.

Suggested twine and yardage for length needed for one five decade rosary are approximate. I would suggest you make one 5 decade rosary to test the yardage needed. To make the "La Fede Della Madonna" which is a 15 decade rosary, triple the yardage. When in doubt add more just in-case.

Here is a list of 5 different sizes of cord or twine with approximate yardage that you may choose from. The yardage listed below is for one 5 decade rosary.

#36 white nylon twine - 6 yards
#48 white nylon twine - 7 yards
#60 white nylon twine - 9 yards
#77 white nylon twine - 10 yards
#96 white nylon twine - 12 yards

How to Make Bead Knots for Rosary
Start in the inner ring with the 10 decades.
Starting about 6 inches from 1 end, hold the short end in one hand.
Then wrap the longer end around the index finger, each loop closer to the hand with the short end along the finger & under the loops.

Hail Mary knots are wrapped 3 times,
Our Father knots 5 times,
The bottom of the cross 7 times.

Pull the 1st loop-the one that was at the end of the finger-out so the other loops line up against the cord, then pull the long end to tighten.

Day 1, October 7, start with the body of the rosary (1st mystery)
(1) Begin about 6 inches from the end of cord. With cord held in left hand wrap cord clockwise 3 times over cord and index finger (i.e. first finger) . Pull entire length of the cord through - tighten. This is the first Hail Mary.
(Remember to pray the bead you just made and one complete rosary)

Day 2
(2) Repeat step one, placing the second knot close or against the first knot tighten. Then maneuver the second knot for spacing. (Remember to pray the bead you just made plus the previous bead, and one complete rosary)

Day 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
(3) Repeat making one bead a day for the next Hail Mary. This completes the 1st decade. (Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)

Day 11
(4) The Our Father - wrap cord 5 times (5 loops instead of 3) to make a large knot. Remember to space before and after the Our Father. (Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)

(5) (a) Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th decades until you complete all 5 decades. (This will complete the Joyful Mysteries)

(5) (b) Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th decades until you complete all 10 decades. (This will complete the Sorrowful Mysteries)

(5) (c) Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the11th,12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th decades until you complete all 15 decades. (This will complete the Glorious Mysteries)

(6) After the 15th decades are completed, join them together. Take both cords of the 1st Hail Mary and the last Hail Mary in your left hand, wrap both cords around your finger twice, pull both ends through, tighten - pulling short cord first.

You have been making and praying your Special Italian Rosary for 5 months and you are just about done. You are now working on your last 5 days.

(7) With the Long cord, knot 1 Our Father (Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)

- space - (8) 1 Hail Mary
(Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)
(9) 1 Hail Mary
(Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)
(10) 1 Hail Mary
(Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)
- space -
(11) 1 Our Father.
(Remember to pray the bead you just made for that day plus all previous beads, and one complete rosary)
- space -

The Last Day, March 25, Crucifix and Ribbons
(12) You can either make your cross from the left over twine using the directions below, or buy a cross about 3 or 4 inches long for your Rosary. Which ever you choose to do, DO NOT CUT THE CORD. The Cord Can Not Be Cut As It Will Fray - Use a cigarette lighter to burn the cord instead of cutting it. (I bought a crucifix when I made my 15 Decade Rosary.)

You may have to triple the instructions for the cross.

The directions for the cross was given to me by a friend. I have never made the cross. You may have to triple the instructions for the to proportion it to the Rosary..

The Cross
A short distance form the last completed Our Father make another Our Father, then leaving a small space, make 2 more Our Fathers very close (touching) together. The cord that is remaining at the joining knot should be burnt off and used for the cross bar of the cross.

Cross Bar
Lay the piece you just burnt off flat on the table, place the rosary over it between the last Our Father and the last 2 Our Fathers (step 8). Hold the ends with each hand, cross them, bring over rosary and tighten. With each end of cord make an Our Father on either side to form the cross bar of the cross. Make these knots very tight- this is very important.

Important: The Cord Can not Be Cut As It Will Fray - Use a cigarette lighter to burn the cord instead of cutting it.

The Ribbon:
Place each colored ribbon right before the Our Father bead starting with the first mystery.

On the last day, March 25, add the Crucifix. When you go back over the Rosary to say a prayer on each bead knot, add the colored ribbon to the Rosary.

I chose to use the liturgical colors and the substitute colors as a guide. Colors I Chose for the Mysteries are:.

1. The Annunciation - White
2. The Visitation - Rose
3. The Nativity of Christ - Purple
4. The Presentation - Green
5. The Finding of the Christ Child in the Temple - Blue

2. The Scourging at the Pillar - -Gold
3. The Crowning with Thorns - Purple
